Sustainability is a way of organising humanity so that we and our world can exist long term. The concept was formally defined less than 30 years ago and has since become a popular trend in the global effort to prolong our existence. Every day we are given an opportunity to create a more sustainable future through careful and considered design. At Christmas Display Solutions, we have invested in extensive research to provide our clients with Christmas decorations that contribute to a sustainable future.

Traditionally, Christmas decorations are manufactured from glass, polystyrene and other plastics. While some of these products can be recycled and have other arguably sustainable properties, our team at CDS have an underlying desire to create a unique suite of sustainable decorations with minimal environmental impact.

We have considered product materiality, the manufacturing process, and the product afterlife.
Our research analyses various materials including recycled plastics, aluminium composite, various timbers, compact laminate, holographic films, chalk paint, krylon spray paint, various timber sealant products, and mild steel. We researched the composition of each material, their strength, density, carbon footprint, weight, heat resistance, flammability, toxicity, and flexibility. The energy involved in the manufacturing process of the material, is as important as the process we undertake to fabricate our Suite of Decorations. Therefore, we considered factors such as sheet sizes and thicknesses, type of cutting, ease of cutting, residue from cutting, type of finishing required, filling, sanding, fixing methods, and ongoing cleaning and maintenance.

Our extensive experience delivering Christmas to our communities highlights the need for decorations to be reminiscent of the traditional spirit of Christmas, and it has been a priority that the sparkle of Christmas is not lost in our sustainable design process. Material colour palette is therefore important, as is the surface finish, and the ability to adhere our sustainable holographic film or paint the decorations.

As the paradigm Sustainability becomes increasingly popular, we are proud to deliver a suite of 2D Christmas Decorations that have minimal product waste, low emissions and toxicity, and a straightforward, minimal production process. We have ensured our product is highly durable for high traffic commercial environments and is UV stable and resistant to weather conditions for outdoor use. Our material selection ensures longevity and is easily reused and refreshed in future years rather than being disposed. We are passionate about our contribution to a sustainable future in the commercial Christmas display industry through continued research and innovative design.
